SEO & AI

Artificial Intelligence – or AI – is the newest “big thing” in search and optimisation. More and more people across the world are using chatbots like Chat GPT and Gemini to find answers to questions, get recommendations for products and services, and explore ideas. As a business owner who wants visibility for their website, it’s important to ensure you’re being seen in this new type of search.

SEO By Another Name

A lot of new terms and acronyms have appeared following the incredible growth of AI. Here’s a quick guide to some of the most popular:

  • AEO – Answer Engine Optimisation
  • GEO – Generative Engine Optimisation
  • GSO – Generative Search Optimisation
  • AIEO – AI Engine Optimisation
  • AIO – Artificial Intelligence Optimisation
  • LLMO – Large Language Model Optimisation

While I won’t go into their differences here, keep in mind that the variations in what they do and what they are for are subtle. If you’re a small business owner looking for tips to help you optimise your website, it’s likely that you won’t need to dive into these in great detail. Just recognise that they are all a type of SEO.

Is AI The Death of SEO?

SEO – Search Engine Optimisation – is still vitally important for getting your business seen. After all, the vast majority of user searches are done through traditional platforms such as Google and Bing search engines. The use of chatbots is still growing, but is still far behind traditional search.

It’s also important to note that the vast majority of good practices from traditional SEO will help your visibility amongst AI and chatbots, too. If you do well for one, you’ll likely do one for the other.
