Around 300 people gathered for two days on the 19th and 20th October at The Brewery conference centre in London to learn about the latest trends and tactics in the SEO and digital marketing world from industry leaders such as Larry Kim, Will Critchlow, Daniel Gilbert, Lisa Myers, and Rand Fishkin.
Here is a very brief summary of my key takeaways from the event:
- Do everything “Mobile First”
- Use structured markup on your website and in email
- Use Google AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages)
- CTR from organic search is dropping
- Be human
- Use emotional targeting in both words and imagery
- Have a likeable person as the face of your brand
- Optimise for topics rather than keywords
- Capture consumers higher up the funnel
- Creative content – take existing data, simplify and create insight
- Ask the question “Does your content help me to do something better?”
- Collaborative campaigns can be great for PR exposure
- Link building is not dead
- Https as a ranking signal is negligible
- Google search volume continues to grow
- Use triggered emails
- Huge opportunity for targeting in paid social at low cost
- Dedicate 3-5% of your budget to “crazy stuff’ (Larry Kim)
- All social networks are now video-based to some degree
- On-site videos have a specific context, social videos must appeal to everyone
